I have a lot of friends who are just not garden people, and since I am, I often get asked my opinion on all things garden related by my non-gardener group of friends. The other day, a friend asked me to accompany her to the nursery to pick out multi-colored roses.

Here is a list of 6 gorgeous multi-colored roses I would enthusiastically recommend. I chose these based on color, performance and overall popularity.

Peace Hybrid Tea: Now this is a rose with a dramatic history! It was developed by French Horticulturist Francis Meilland in the 1930′s. It is said that before Germany invaded France, Meilland sent cuttings of this rose out of France to the United States, Italy, Turkey and Germany where it could be safely propagated. It was named Peace to mark the end of World War 2. I read a few places that  Peace is one of the most widely planted hybrid tea rose in the United States. It has these huge 5 inch blooms with the palest of yellow petals that are pink edged. The coloring is soft, yet striking. A point worth noting on this rose is the color differs from yard to yard. I’ve seen it almost a jewel toned yellow in some pictures while in other pictures it is a pale yellow like it is in my yard. It is only slightly fragrant.

Rock N Roll Hybrid Tea:  This is a free flowering rose that gets tons of compliments.  The coloring looks almost painted, hence the categorization of this rose as a “hand painted” rose. If you want a strong fragrance and stand out coloring, this one is not one you want to miss. It has that old rose scent with a hint of fruitiness.

Double Delight Hybrid Tea: Creamy off white center meets deep red tips with a fragrance to knock you off your feet. Double Delight is a rose that never goes out of style and is always sought after. It is probably one of the most recognizable roses in yards everywhere. Of all the roses I have, this the main one that many people know by name.

Perfect Moment Hybrid Tea: This is the rose that I take the most pictures of. I absolutely love it and the only ‘flaw’ (if you could call it that) I see in it is that it is not fragrant; at least not in my yard. But who cares because this rose is alive with color! A golden yellow merges with red, hinting at orange in full bloom on a long stem. It is just stunning and a must have rose for people who love warm colors.

Paradise Hybrid Tea: A very unique colored rose  with a classic rose form. It has these lavender/mauve colored petals with magenta edges. If you like roses in the purple/lavender color group, this is one you want to consider. On top of the fact it has this unique coloring, it is also highly fragrant…and if you’ve known me for 5 minutes, you know I LOVE a highly fragrant rose!

Gemini Hybrid Tea: It is almost magical. Gemini has this ability to consistently form these perfectly shaped blooms that radiate her beauty. This rose seriously glows! The petals are cream colored with coral tips carried by a long stem which make her a perfect cut rose. In my garden, it has only a very faint fragrance.

So there you have it. Those are my suggestions for multi-colored roses. Did you have a favorite?
